Our dad went to Ohio State. And so, though we have never lived in Ohio, we are by default Ohio State fans. Being Floridians we are also UF fans, which was all fine until Ohio State and Florida started playing against each other in some key games a few years back. Most years it is fine to be fans of both, as long as Dad doesn’t know!
When Ohio State lost the road to the BCS Championship it meant that they were headed to Miami to be in the Orange Bowl, which gave us a chance to see them. And, thanks to a Christmas gift from the parents, it became a family affair (minus Sarabeth and Andy who were stuck in the freezing cold north). I thoroughly enjoy college football, especially having missed it for the past two years when games aired at about 3 am local Indian time. I’ve never been to a college football game, so this was definitely the way to start, and I loved it!
We were basically as far away from the action as you can possibly get. . .except for the overly enthusiastic fans 3 rows above us, but we were directly across from the Ohio State band (the best band in the world according to Dad) and so were able to hear them throughout the game which worked well!
We didn’t win, but I loved it. And even though I don’t anticipate many falls in the US in the years to come, I vow here and now to attend a college football game whenever I get the chance!
